This is Konrad now. Eileen his foster carer has done an amazing job with him. Konrad is now only a little underweight and is looking like a different dog.
His ribs are much less prominent than there were originally. A pic of Konrad taken today. He has appt with a new vet this Thursday. Below is a pic of Konrad the day he came into care so you can compare the difference in his condition.
So nice to see Konrad looking loved and settled in foster care :)
The latest news is that as we received his paperwork we were able to contact his previous vet who assures us Konrad DOES have pancreatitis. So in order to work out whats going on we are taking Konrad to see a different vet for a third opinion. His previous vet seemed shocked when told the condition he was in. So all very confusing for us still. We are hoping to get blood tests done which will tell us for sure if Konrad has pancreatitis, and also if he has an enzyme deficiency. Phew. The news from Konrad's carer is that she is positive he has gained some weight! FIngers crossed he maintains the weight gain. I think its time I hassled her for some updated pics too :)
Well Konrad went to the vet today, and now we are truly confused. According to the vet Konrad does not show any symptoms of pancreatitis, rather he shows symptoms of being poor fed.
So at this point we are not entirely sure why Konrad is in such poor condition. it is possible his owner did not give him adequate food, but as there were other dogs on the property who were very well fed this seems unlikely. Also Konrad is such a happy little fella is seems odd that if he was neglected through starvation he would be so confident with us humans. I am wondering whether perhaps Konrad has some type of digestive/enzyme disorder that prevents him from absorbing the nutrients from his food? Further blood tests will hopefully reveal the problem but for now we are grateful that it seems Konrad does not have pancreatitis. This is great news! Recceived this update this morning from Eileen who is Konrad's foster carer. Oh and Ollie is her whippet :)
Konrad continues to improve. His digestive system seems to be working perfectly - in and out! He tried to play with Ollie last night, but Ollie still doesn't quite know how to take him! He stands still and looks at Konrad with a surprised and puzzled expression, We're off to the vet this afternoon and I'm fairly confident that the news will be good. The people who adopt Konrad will delight him him. He really is the nicest fellow - cute, affectionate, gentle, funny and house trained! Well Konrad didnt end up going to the vet today, due to the ill health of one of the humans involved. His appoitment has been rescheduled for Wednesday.
His carer reports that Konrad is loving his food and eating well. Konrad came into foster care yesterday. Our understanding was that he was prone to pancreatitis but was otherwise fit and healthy.
The first we knew there was a problem was when the lovely Allison who transported him sent a msg to Jane telling her Konrad was in very poor condition. Shortly after that Allison sent us the pics that are posted on Konrad's page. Both Jane and myself were shocked and horrified. In the 24hrs since Konrad came into care, we have been overwhelmed by people's support and generosity after seeing Konrad's pics online. Konrad is in Canberra with a loving foster carer who is determind to get him back into good condition. Thanks to the donation we received in jsut one day, we have the funds to get Konrad a full medical workup at the vet tomorrow. Our major concern at present is that Konrad's emaciated state may have compromised his organs. Until he has had a thorough medical workup inc blood screens we wont know if Konrad has any other major medical issues. As we have had many people contact us asking about Konrad, we decided we would start a blog so everyone can keep abreast of his progress. According to Eileen who is Konrad's foster carer, he is an incredibly sweet affectionate little guy. Eileen tells is that Konrad has a fantastic temperament and is an absolute cuddle bug. She reports Konrad is eating well and loved sleeping in her bed. |
