Excuse the bad filming, but here is Phoenix at the park today. It has been a loooong wait, so when we were finally allowed it was hard to hide our excitement.

Everyone was soaked and dirty, but we all had fun! They socialised really well with other dogs in the park. Phoenix walked beside me most of the time, but would wonder off then come back. They both respond well to their names and they came each time they were called.

Dusty was exhausted after the park and fell asleep like this!

Phoenix took a much more civilised approach and draped himself on the bed.

NEVER in a million years would you have seen Phoenix next to Scott like this. It is a HUGE milestone for Phoenix and also a big tick for the Adaptil room diffuser. The change is amazing.

The boys are healthy enough and almost ready for adoption. As you have read and seen in recent blogs, they have had a rough start but progressed well over the last 5 weeks.

Vaccinations and desexing has been completed and they are back to 2 meals a day. There have been some separation anxiety problems, but we are addressing that as we speak.

Dusty will be due to have his stitches out on Tuesday and Phoenix will have his e collar removed in the following days.

The ideal candidate for these boys will be Whippet experienced. Children are ok as they have been around my two year old who has grown up with dogs. Note: he is not a hugely boisterous child and l am a full time at home mother, so there is always a watchful eye over them all.

When you go out, ideally they need to be in an area either dedicated to them i.e. a run or a good, warm secure area they can be put while you are out.

Secure fencing is a must as Dusty has managed to scale our fence (after being let out of the house), trying to find me when l have taken the others for a walk.

They are toilet trained and will even go outside in the rain should they need to go to the toilet. If the weather is really bad (which it has been), they just go under the covered outdoor area and we clean up out there in the morning.

They both have shining personalities. Very different, heart warming to say the least. Dusty has a cheeky disposition and is VERY chatty when he knows something exciting is about to happen - stay tuned, l will try and get this on video.

Phoenix (also known ad PPD - Phoenix Puppy Dog) is a little slower to warm to new people. He is a little shy around males, but l would say this is due to the trauma of his past. But, over the weeks he is now staying in the room when my partner comes in and not slinking away to a quiet nook.

We were happy to hear that at the end of this week due to their progress, they would be able to have all their vet work done.

While catching some morning sun in our room, Phoenix decided to give Oscar a clean. He even tried to clean his teeth!

Quite spontaneously Phoenix put his leg over Dusty for a cuddle. They do sleep a lot, but that is all part of the healing process.

Dusty decided he also needed to rest on my pillow as well as take over my bed.

A flying visit to Melbourne meant the boys were finally off to the vet for their work!

Vet work was a success and both boys were stars! Phoenix has had to have a collar put on as he was trying to remove his stitches...

Maybe if l stretch out, this cone might come off...

Phoenix got to his stitches while l was out today and so it was back to the vet for staples - ouch! Not to mention a much bigger collar. He is NOT happy.

The boys were also given these bandanas today at the vet (not because they are cute) because they are getting quite anxious when l go out now. The hormones sprayed onto the bandana should help with their anxiety...

After a good feed and maybe the bandana, this is the most relaxed l have seen Phoenix. Normally when my partner comes into the room, he leaves; tonight he just lay there.

There has not been a huge amount to report this week. Dusty and Phoenix have been resting, staying out of the cold and playing with their new toys.

In the week ahead we hope they will gain another kilo or two and be in good enough condition to finally get their vaccinations, and desexing done.

It has been lovely reading all the lovely comments from you all with regards to the boys progress. I know all the love and support has helped them so much in recovering so well.

]]><![CDATA[End of week 2]]>Fri, 18 May 2012 11:47:35 GMThttp://www.iggyrescue.com.au/dusty--phoenixs-blog/end-of-week-2Dusty and Phoenix have made great strides in their progress and we are proud to say, also gained good weight.

We went to the West Ryde Vet this morning for a check up, everyone involved were very happy with their progress. Dusty at his first weigh in was only 10.3kg's, today he was 13.7kg's. Phoenix was 9.1kg's and today was 11.7kg's.

There is still a good month ahead of recovery, weight gain, the all important vaccinations and desexing to come, but the meeting today was a positive one.

All their wonderful progress would not have been possible without the kindness, donations and love everyone has shown. Iggy Rescue thank everyone who has helped thus far in their recovery.

Phoenix loves this corner of the garden in the morning. Its one of the first places that gets nice and warm on these chilly mornings.

Dusty no longer has all his ribs showing. There is still a lot of condition to gain, especially around his bottom bones, but we are getting there slowly.

Phoenix is also not showing all his ribs now.

Both Phoenix and Dusty like to come in and crawl under my sons cot while l am settling him for his afternoon sleep. Phoenix l think would be very happy to stay there most of the day... The only thing missing is a doona.

Off to the vet for check up.

This is the lovely Keith Farrell, the vet who has been monitoring the boys progress. The vet is not the boys favourite place, but they did very well.

Dusty and Phoenix have been making amazing progress, but the road is still a long one ahead. Everyones donations and kind messages have helped so much, they are very blessed.

Below are a few photos showing their progress from their first week with us.

Dusty loves keeping warm under our doona.

Both boys love catching some morning sun. I think it is really important to get the sun on their skin, then rug them up as the day cools down.

Although they are still very skinny, they are making amazing progress.

Resting is the best thing for both Dusty and Phoenix.

This is a big step for Oscar and Phoenix. Oscar has been quite unsure about the boys, but has now decided that having a snuggle is ok. He even let Phoenix clean him.

They do sleep a lot, but every sleep is helping to gain strength and allow them to gain condition.

Changing the sheets is always interesting when the boys decide they do not want to give up the doona.

Thank goodness you have clean sheets on the bed. We are exhausted.

Phoenix and Dusty have been so lucky with all the amazing coats that have been donated to them. They have been so warm and loved by you all. Phoenix is content enough, that even when l put his favourite treat in front of him, he doesn't feel like he has to inhale it.

Not even four treats will entice him.

Another big step happened today, the boys have started playing with some soft toys. I managed to get this pick before Dusty ran off with the toy and romped around the garden.

Today Dusty picked up a squeaky toy and tried to play with it! They both respond with wagging tails when spoken to and Phoenix had decided his fav place is in Ella's bed.

Day 4

Dusty had been trying to roll on his back for a few days and today he succeeded. Both dogs are spending their days sleeping which is the best thing they can do.
